NATO's 'self-defense'

Chinese.diplomats.bombed.jpgDoD expanding collective cyber self-defense beyond NATO

11 April 2012

The US Department of Defense is expanding its collective cyber self-defense cooperation beyond “traditional allies”, such as NATO, to include Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand, a DoD official told a conference this week at Georgetown University.

DoD officials have worked with NATO staff to bring all NATO networks – civilian and military – under the NATO Cyber Incident Response Center, which is expected to be completed later this year, said Steven Schleien, DoD’s principal director for cyber policy at the International Engagement on Cyber conference held at Georgetown University.

Recently, DoD officials have begun talks with the Japanese, South Korean, and New Zealand defense ministries about collective cyber self-defense, while working closely with the British and Australian ministries “to talk about a whole spectrum of cyber interoperability”, Schleien said.

Navy Rear Admiral Samuel Cox, director of intelligence at US Cyber Command, warned the conference that what "we’re looking at is a global cyber arms race [that] is not proceeding in a leisurely or even linear fashion but is, in fact, accelerating."

Cox said that it is relatively easy to cooperate with longstanding international partners like the UK and Australia, as well as Canada and New Zealand. Beyond those nations, Cox added, “it gets significantly harder.”

One of the impediments is the high-level classification of the information, which has “very strict rules on how you can share this with foreign governments,” he said.

The bottom line is that military cooperation with foreign countries in cyberspace “is still an extremely difficult environment to try to navigate through,” Cox concluded.

Nasser bombed

June 26, 2011 - Recently Tripoli’s Nasser University was bombed. University staff were injured and killed. Mohammed Al-Alam, a student at Nasser University provided The Centre for Research on Globalisation (CRG) with exclusive photographs of the NATO strike on Nasser University.

As Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya writes:

The unspoken objective [in bombing Libya] is to destroy Libya’s economy and to prevent it from developing as a nation-state. This is why schools and universities, hospitals, shipyards, factories, not to mention residential areas, have been the target of NATO bombings.

Russia Wants ICC to Examine All NATO Bombings in Libya

destroyedLibya.jpgMOSCOW, May 18 (RIA Novosti)

Russia hopes that the International Criminal Court will consider all cases of NATO airstrikes in Libya that caused civilian casualties, Foreign Ministry human rights spokesman Konstantin Dolgov said in the statement published on the ministry’s website.

“We welcome the decision of ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo to consider alleged violations of international humanitarian law," the statement said. "We presume that the ICC will consider all cases of NATO bombing that caused civilian casualties.”

“The issue of civilian casualties during the NATO Libyan campaign has been repeatedly raised at the UN Security Council and the UN Council on Human Rights.”

“An impartial international investigation into the effects of NATO air strikes during Operation United Defender in Libya is necessary to prevent such tragedies in the future,” the statement said.

40 man voor betoging tegen deelname militaire interventies in buitenland

NATO-rebels will maintain 'normal relations with other democratic countries'

NATO-rebels: "The future regime will maintain normal relations with other democratic countries, including Israel."

Libyan rebels will recognise Israel

June 3, 2011 - Libya’s rebel National Transitional Council (NTC) is ready to recognise Israel, according to French philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy, who says he has passed the message on to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The NTC "will be concerned with justice for the Palestinians and security for Israel" it it takes power, Lévy said after meeting Netanyahu Thursday.

"The future regime will maintain normal relations with other democratic countries, including Israel."

Netanyahu's office confirmed the meeting with Lévy but did not comment on the discussion. "The prime minister likes to meet intellectuals," a spokesperson said.

Lévy, who helped persuade France to be the first country to recognise the NTC, visited the rebel-held Libyan city of Misrata last weekend and went on to Jerusalem this week.

Moamer Kadhafi’s regime refused to recognise Israel, even after Egypt’s President Anwar Sadat peace treaty with the country in 1979.

U.N.: China and Liechtenstein

U.N., China, Liechtenstein, Nato air strikes, Chinese embassy, hit

In 1999 the Chinese embassy in the Yugoslav capital, Belgrade, had been hit and set on fire during Nato air strikes on the city. Three people were reported to have died including a correspondent for the official Chinese news agency, Xinhua. At least 20 were injured. A statement on Chinese television said the government severely condemned a "barbaric attack and a gross violation of Chinese sovereignty". And that is all. In the UN, China has the same power as Liechtenstein.

NATO 'protect civilians' with terror weapons

nato-bombing-serbia.jpg

THE NATO-BOMBINGS OF YUGOSLAVIA (24.3.1999- 19.4.1999)
The North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) made over 7,000 criminal attacks against the territory of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. 700 warplanes, of which 530 combat planes, were used; more than 2000 cruise missiles were launched and over 6,000 tons of explosives were dropped.
About 500 civilians were killed and more than 4,000 sustained serious injuries e.g.:
in Kursumlija: 13 dead and 25 wounded;
in Pancevo: 2 dead and 4 wounded;
in Cacak: one dead and 7 wounded;
in Kragujevac: over 120 workers were wounded during an attack on the car factory "Zastava";
in Vranje: two dead and 23 wounded;
in Aleksinac: 12 dead and more than 40 wounded;
in Nagavac village, Orahovac municipality: 11 dead and 5 wounded;
in Pristina: 10 dead and 8 wounded;
Grdelicka gorge: 55 killed and 16 wounded;
attack on two refugee columns, with four cruise missiles, on the Djakovica-Prizren
road: 75 killed and 100 wounded, of whom 26 critically;
in the village of Srbica: 10 killed, among whom 7 children;
Belgrade suburb of Batajnica: a three year old girl was killed, and five civilians wounded.

Three million children are endangered in our country as a result of war and bombardment by NATO.
After these barbarian attacks hundreds of thousands citizens have been exposed to poisonous gasses which can have a lasting consequences on the health of the entire population and the environment.
After the demolition of the Petrovaradin bridge, Novi Sad and Petrovaradin were cut of water supply (600 000 citizens) since the main and city pipeline was constructed into the bridge. About one million citizens in our country are short of water supply due to the bombardment of NATO.
About 500 000 workers became jobless due to the total destruction of industrial facilities all around the country. Two million citizens have no means for living and cannot ensure the minimum for existence.
Overall material damage is enormous. Preliminary estimates indicate that barbaric air strikes of the NATO alliance, since the beginning of the unprovoked aggression on the SR of Yugoslavia, on industrial, commercial and civil facilities and structures, have incurred damages in excess of 10 billion dollars. In the territory of the northern province of Vojvodine alone, damages have been estimated in excess of 3,5 billion dollars.

Many innocent civilians in Afghanistan, Pakistan an Libya are killed or wounded by so called drones. The drone is an unmanned aircraft designed by Israel.   The Israelis are denied entry into Afghanistan, but nevertheless, Israel provide ‘security’ for the coalition in Afghanistan. Israeli drones are used by Canada, France, Australia and Germany in Afghanistan. Today, Israeli specialists are on the air base at Ein Shemer for training the flight of “Herons” repainted in the colors of Germany.  Many of Israeli military products are standard NATO-compatible.

Israel Aerospace Industries made an unmanned aerial vehicle that can reach Iran.
The 4.5-ton Heron TP, dubbed the Eitan, which is Hebrew for "strong," is 79 feet long. It has a wingspan of 86 feet - about the size of a Boeing 737 airliner - and stay aloft for more than 24 hours at high altitude.

The US military is working to develop drones capable of taking off from US Navy aircraft carriers based in the Pacific. Analysts say the primary goal will be to confront China.

The drone is the result of the development work on the "pilotless airplane" ( V1 and V2) that Hitler authorised in June 1942. Of more than 10,000 V-1 launched, 7488 reached England, 3957 were destroyed and 3531 reached London. More than six thousand civilians were killed and eighteen thousand were wounded. The 1150 V-2 that landed in London killed 2,742 civilians and wounded 6467. The total property damage was 23,000 houses totally destroyed and 100,000 damaged while the RAF lost 490 aircraft.

The idea of the drone is partly based on the V-1 and V-2 rocket that Germany used to bomb London. In total, the V-1 attacks caused 22,892 casualties (almost entirely civilians).   Of more than 10,000 V-1 launched, 7488 reached England, 3957 were destroyed and only 3531 reached London.

The V-2 rocket (in Germany called the A-4) was small by comparison to today’s rockets. It achieved its great thrust by burning a mixture of liquid oxygen and alcohol and was able to lob a one-ton warhead 50 miles high and hundreds of miles down range. The rocket fuselage was made of thin, collapsible metal that was inflated with the introduction of fuel into the tanks. Once launched, the V-2 was a weapon that could devastate entire city blocks. Fortunately for London and the Allied forces, the V-2 came too late in the War to change its outcome. Nevertheless, by the War’s end, German rocket scientists and engineers had already laid plans for advanced missiles capable of spanning the Atlantic Ocean and landing in the United States. With the fall of Germany, many unused V-2 rockets and components were captured by the Allies. Many German rocket scientists came to the United States, while others went to the Soviet Union. Both the United States and the Soviet Union realized the potential of the rocket as a military weapon and began a variety of experimental programs. The United States began developing its space program with high-altitude atmospheric sounding rockets. On October 4, 1957, the world was stunned by the news of the world’s first Earth-orbiting artificial satellite launched by the Soviet Union.

NATO-bombing of Libya: Violation of the U.N. mandate

NATO-bombing, Libya, Violation, U.N. mandate

Belgrade, April 19 2011 (Reuters) - Russia said on Tuesday Western attempts to topple Muammar Gaddafi were a violation of a U.N. resolution on Libya, which only authorised the use of force to protect civilians. "The U.N. Security Council never aimed to topple the Libyan regime," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on a visit to Belgrade. "All those who are currently using the U.N. resolution for that aim are violating the U.N. mandate," he said. (Reporting by Aleksandar Vasovic; Editing by Adam Tanner and Jon Boyle)

‘No-fly’ zone Libya: Hillary Clinton lied

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lied about the so called ‘no-fly’ zone:

1.3.2011- Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon on Tuesday said he believed a no-fly zone should be imposed on Libya to stop a “danger of genocide”. Speaking at a conference in Brussels, Ayalon said international moves to impose a no-fly zone over Libya to stop Moamer Kadhafi using air strikes against his own people, had not been discussed by the Israeli government. “If you ask me personally, I think it should be imposed. There is a danger of genocide. Morally we have to stop it”, Ayalon said, adding “Its best to have the UN’s okay.” (AFP) HTTP://WWW.FRANCE24.COM/EN/20110301-ISRAELI-MINISTER-FAVO...

2.3.2011 (1 day later) – Hillary Clinton: ‘Spare us the crocodile tears over Libya’ US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said that a no-fly zone could be imposed on Libya, in order to prevent Gaddafi from bombing his own people. She has also hinted strongly that direct military intervention is on the cards and said that it is time for Gaddafi to go. This has been echoed in Britain by David Cameron who has said that Britain will never abandon the Libyan people in their struggle against Gaddafi. These actions and statements are being made in the name of human rights and humanitarian concerns but beware of such crocodile tears. http://www.middleeastmonitor.org.uk/resources/commentary-...

What did the Security Council vote on?

March 18, 2011|By Paul Armstrong, CNN

Acting under Chapter VII of the U.N. Charter, which provides for the use of force if needed, the Council adopted Resolution 1973 by 10 votes to zero, with five abstentions, authorizing member states “to take all necessary measures” to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack …while excluding an occupation force.”

The resolution follows an arms embargo that the Council imposed last month when it unanimously approved sanctions against Libya, freezing the assets of its leaders and referring the ongoing violence against civilian demonstrators to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

What does the resolution mean?

An U.N.-backed international force will enforce a no-fly zone over Libya which will effectively ground Libya’s military aircraft. All flights — except those for humanitarian purposes — will be banned from Libyan airspace.

This force will also have the power to launch air strikes against Libyan ground forces — from tanks, artillery and missiles to their communications and command and control infrastructure — if they are considered to be a threat against the civilian population.

According to Barak Seener, Research Fellow in Middle Eastern Studies at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London, the wording in the resolution permitting member states to use “all necessary means” also makes pre-emptive strikes from the air at the regime’s forces legitimate.

“It’s intended to force Gadhafi back and tilt the balance in the rebel’s favor,” he told CNN.

“I think it will embolden protesters across the Arab world as it is a precedent to oppressive regimes. The resolution is saying human rights violations will not go unabated and there will be a response.”

Who backed the Security Council vote?
