Al-Moallem: Key to Make Brahimi's Mission a Success is in the Hands of Countries which Fund and Arm Terrorists in Syria

Oct 02, 2012

NEW YORK, (SANA) – Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem affirmed that the key to make the mission of UN Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi a success lies having Syria's neighboring countries, other countries and the west cease their support and harboring of terrorists, warning that the US and all those who support terrorism are bound to get a taste of its poison.

In an interview on al-Mayadine TV broadcast in full on Monday, October 01, 2012 al-Moallem voiced confidence that the tolerant and patriotic Syrian people will overcome the crisis by engaging in a comprehensive national reconciliation that would reconstruct the Syrian social fabric and build a better future for Syria and its children.

The Minister pointed out that the positions of countries that Syria considers sides in the conspiracy against it haven't changed based on what he witnessed during the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, noting that there were other grey positions that have now shifted to supporting Syria, demanding ending violence and finding a polticial, peaceful solution to the situation in Syria through comprehensive national dialogue.

On the calls of the Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi for implementing Chapter VII of the UN Security Council against Syria, al-Moallem said "the reason for his obsession with Chapter VII could be his jealousy from his predecessor and his work in Libya."

Al-Moallem said that al-Arabi should remember that more than 100 resolutions were issued by the UN and the Security Council against Israel and none of them were under Chapter VII. adding "I don't know why he insists on chapter VII when he knows that it will be exploited to wage a military action against Syria."‬

Responding to a question on "loss of legitimacy," al-Moallem said that those who talk about this are either ignorant and need to cement their own legitimacy, or members of the conspiracy against Syria who infringe upon the Syrian people's right to determine their own future, adding that even Security Council resolutions affirmed that the people alone have the right to decide their own future.

"No-one in the world can decide who leads Syria other than the Syrian people… this is a delusion they need to abandon unless their goal is to extend the crisis, which I believe to be the most likely," he added.

On his meeting with Ibrahimi, al-Moallem said that Syria supported the Envoy's mission and was optimistic due to his considerable diplomatic experience, stressing that there are guidelines which constitutes rights for Syria; first of them is maintaining sovereignty and territorial integrity and preventing foreign interference, and second is acknowledging the Syrian people's right to deice their own present and future.

"No-one can overcome this truth… other than that, we cooperate with Ibrahimi in any way that can lead to the success of his mission," he said.

Al-Moallem said that one of the keys to the success of Brahimi's mission  is in Damascus while another is abroad; specifically in the hands of Syria's neighboring countries which are harboring, arming and supporting the armed terrorist groups in Syria with funds and media, adding "if Brahimi didn't get real commitments from neighboring countries, and before that from the USA which is running the entire game, then he will face the same problems that faced Kofi Annan… I am confident that Ibrahimi has good intentions and determination to succeed in his mission, and we in Syria will provide all that could lead to its success."

Answering a question about Brahimi's next visit to Syria, al-Moallem said "It came to my knowledge that it will be in the next few days, and it will be a regional visit.''

On the initiatives launched for solving the crisis in Syria, including the so-called 'Quartet' that the Egyptian president spoke about and his assessment of these initiatives, al-Moallem said that Syria welcomes in principle all well-intentioned initiatives that seek to put an end to the current situation, ''But first, it is no longer a 'quartet', for as I understood, Saudi Arabia did not attend Cairo nor New York meeting, but let me ask, does Turkey have well intentions? This needs to be substantiated on the ground as the bulk of the raging violence in Syria comes from Turkey.''

''In Syria, we are looking forward to the best of relations with the Turkish people, and in our approach to Turkey, we tend to differentiate between the Turkish people and Erdogan's government…It's Erdogan's government who is antagonistic to us not the Turkish people with whom we share deep-rooted historical friendship and broad economic interests that were undermined by Erdogan government,'' al-Moallem said.

Al-Moallem added ''Concerning the situation in Turkey, we are informed that that there is dissatisfaction with Erdogan's policies towards Syria, which is real, as they persist in denying hosting, training and arming armed terrorist groups. In Syria, they have brought terrorist organizations from Tunisia, Libya, Algeria and Afghanistan to fight in Syria, some of which were misled into believing that they were sent to fight in Palestine.''

Asked about the Syrian Arab army's right to pursue armed groups infiltrating into Syria from neighboring countries, and whether this might lead to a volatile regional situation, al-Moallem said ''It was Turkey who introduced this precedent in international relations through pursuing PKK members in northern Iraq. As for Syria, we are committed to good neighborliness with our neighbors, namely Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq, and we say that border control must happen through mutual cooperation,'' warning that exporting terrorism will backfire on those exporting it, which makes cooperation in border control through diplomatic the best way to fix the problem.

Replying to a question on Qatar's gas and oil aspirations and whether the Qatari interference is predicated on its intention to provide a pipeline passing through Saudi Arabia, Akaba, Syria, Turkey and Bulgaria with the aim to vie with the Russian gas and oil, al-Moallem said ''I haven't heard about this before, and Qatar has not asked for Syria's agreement…this is journalistic analysis…Second, we have an interest in pipelines passing through Syria as we are receiving fees, and I don't know of the reasons behind Qatar's transformation from close relations between the two leaderships to enmity that permits killing Syrians.''

''Qatar is allocating millions of dollars for killing the Syrian people and destroying the infrastructure in Syria,'' al-Moallem said.

Al-Moallem observed that when asking Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos on the funds that the GCC countries donated to help the Syrian people, Amos replied ''Not one dollar.''

The Minister said, "They are paying billions of dollars to kill the Syrian people and destroy the infrastructure, but they do not pay one dollar to help the Syrian people…. I believe that they are suffering from a problem in their mentalities because any one who sees the destruction in Syria would say that it is crazy."

Concerning the opposition's conferences in Syria and the talk about an international conference to discuss the Syrian issue, al-Moallem said, "Two national opposition's conferences were held in Damascus, and as a government, we facilitated these conferences… several months ago the Russian friends offered a preparatory dialogue with the opposition in Moscow and we welcomed the idea as we did with the Iranian friends. Again we call on all national opposition factions to meet in Damascus in the framework of a comprehensive national dialogue with an open agenda and with no preconditions, but it should be based on rejecting foreign interference."

Minister al-Moallem added, "The security solution was imposed on us. The Government has a duty to defend its people and infrastructure; it is not my favorite as I am still committed to a peaceful national comprehensive political solution in which all Syrian people take part to plan the present and the future of Syria".

Answering a question on the readiness of the government in Syria for early elections under international supervision on the presidential term as a part of the comprehensive solution, Al-Moallem said, "First, there is a constitution that was adopted recently and parliamentary elections were held according to it. This constitution remains in effect until a dialogue is held and produces ideas and agreement on constitutional amendments that are put to public referendum. The current constitution stipulates for presidential elections in 2014".

As for the international supervision, al-Moallem said, "this issue is still too early, and we will leave it for the national dialogue as proposing this issue would affect the honesty of elections."

I reply to a question on whether there would be flexibility if an internal consensus is reached through a comprehensive national conference regarding any proposals, including an amendment of the presidential term and allowing candidates for presidency, al-Moallem said ''Of course, this will be possible for everyone according to parliamentary rules, and each parliamentary block will be able to name a candidate, and we haven't said that president al-Assad will be the sole candidate.''

Concerning the citizens who were forced to leave their homes, al-Moallem said, "We know those people were forced by the armed terrorist groups to leave their houses. Some of them stayed inside Syria, others went across the borders. Unfortunately, camps in remote areas were built for them… on behalf of the Syrian government, I call on those citizens to go back to their houses and village, and the state would guarantee their security and would offer them help."

Al-Moallem pointed out that everyone in Syria could suffer a bad security condition, but "That doesn't mean that we should leave the country."

He said that the parties behind the crisis in Syria planned for two options; military and economic, adding that when they failed in repeating the Libyan scenario in Syria, they opted for a policy of imposing sanctions and wanted to substitute the military option with the economic through economic sanctions and vandalism of infrastructure to topple the Syrian regime, "But the Syrians are aware of all of that. Syria is a rich country as it possesses a strategic stockpile of wheat, food, medicine and the basic needs of citizens that enable us to withstand sanctions," al-Moallem added.

Answering a question on alleged US-Syrian communications on the WMDs, Minister al-Moallem said that former U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell made perjurious statements at the UN Security Council on WMDs in Iraq in the aftermath of the US war under the pretext of WMDs which proved baseless, adding that "Allegations of chemical weapons in Syria are fabricated by the US administration. Assuming that such weapons exist in Syria, is it believable that we could use them against our own people? That's nonsense."

"We said that we are ready to sign the Chemical Weapons Non-Proliferation Treaty if Israel signs the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. That doesn't mean that Syria possesses a chemical arsenal or plans to use such weapons against its people. These nonsensical allegations were made to launch a campaign against Syria similar to the campaign against Iraq."

Al-Moallem stressed that there has never been dialogue between Syria and the US on chemical weapons, adding that there have not been attempts to discuss this topic on the sidelines of the New York meetings or the issues that could make the US reconsider its policies toward Syria.

Al-Moallem said "I don't want to be irrational like the US officials in answering this question. First of all, the US elections is the choice of the US people, no  one abroad has the right to decide whether Obama or Romney is better. Unlike the USA, We don't make mistakes against the USA."

Al-Moallem wondered what could make the USA change its stances toward Syria, adding "From my experience, the Americans don't ask specialists in the region's affairs about the interests of the USA…They ask the Israelis about their interests…The Israeli interests are top priority for the USA."

He stressed that the interests of Israel are being achieved today as the Syrian blood is being shed and the Syrian infrastructure institutions sabotaged.

"The last terrorist act targeting the Military Staff building in Damascus wasn't condemned by the UN Security Council because the West, especially the USA, UK and France encourage such acts," he added.

Al-Moallem said he wasn't surprised that the West didn't condemn this terrorist attack, adding that "The USA will get a taste of the terrorism's poison which it is supporting. "Apparently they didn't learn from Afghanistan, when in the 1980s they were calling Ben Laden and his group freedom fighters, then they became terrorists. USA got a taste of their poison in 11 September."

He stressed that the Israelis are embroiling the USA in the region and are harming Washington interests in order for them to achieve theirs, adding that it is a common knowledge that the so-called "Arab Spring" serves Israel.

On the possibility of healing the wounds inflicted upon the Syrian society after 18 months of sectarian and racist incitement, al-Moallem said that "We didn't reach a stage of sectarian or civil war..There is a struggle between the Syrian army and armed terrorist groups. I believe the Syrians are tolerant people. The Syrians don't ask anyone about his religion or sect..This was brought to Syria by the USA after invading Iraq."

He said that restoring national unity is possible through a comprehensive national reconciliation, adding that the Ministry of National Reconciliation was established because without reconciliation it is hard to restore this unity, adding that the Ministry will have enormous tasks in the future.

Al-Moallem underscored that the reconciliation efforts started in Homs, which was a center of terrorist acts and destruction, adding that "We are looking forward for similar efforts in the future…An amnesty decree was issued for the persons who surrendered their weapons."

''It is possible in the foreseeable future, when a mutual vision in reached and violence is stopped, that there would be a comprehensive amnesty decree that paves the way for national reconciliation,'' al-Moallem said.

Amnesty International, instrument of US. war propaganda

Ban.Ki.Moon.meets.Amnesty.International.jpg

Amnesty International has released satellite pictures of “craters” in Syria, citing : ”an increased use of heavy weaponry, including near residential areas”.

The BBC reports, quoting Amnesty: “Images from Anadan revealed more than 600 probable artillery impact craters from heavy fighting between Syrian armed forces and armed opposition groups.”

Further: “Turning Syria’s most populous city into a battlefield will have devastating consequences for civilians. The atrocities in Syria are mounting already,” warned Christoph Koettl, emergency response manager for Amnesty International USA, without acknowedging that the killings of civilians are committed by the US-NATO Free Syrian Army (FSA) rather than the government.

Who's responsible for terrorist acts in Syria ?

Obama.Ban+Ki+Moon+World+Leaders.jpg

1) Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.  Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence “finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust Assad.  C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and medical working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

2) British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Britain would step up its support for the armed groups in Syria, providing them with an additional £5 million (US$7.8 million). The money is used for bomb attacks in Syria.

3) An official source told a SANA reporter that the seized arms included Nato sniper rifles, machineguns, hunting rifles, explosive devices of various weights, devices for remote control detonation and an amount of batteries and electrical wires.

4) Belgian Senator Nele Lijnen said that she intends to launch a discussion at the Belgian Senate regarding the fact that the terrorists in Syria possess weapons made in Belgium.

5) The Swiss Authorities announced that they are investigating into information published by Sonntags Zeitung newspaper about hand grenades used by armed terrorist groups in Syria.

6) The weapons and military equipment recently discovered and seized by the Syrian Army in Idlib province proves NATO's arms and logistic support for terrorists in Syria.

7) The seized weapons in Salqain district in Idlib included 7.26 guns along with other weapons as well as boxes of gunshots with the words "NATO BALL" carved on them.

8) The Lebanese army intelligence has seized a large quantity of wea Lutfallah II container pons hidden inside cars aboard an Italian ship at Tripoli port, north of Lebanon, Lebanese security sources told Al-Manar TV.

9) This comes just days after the Lebanese Army Marines confiscated Lutfallah II arms shipment off the Lebanese port of Batoun while it was carrying 300,000 pounds of weapons within three containers. Reports said the cargo ship, which was flying the flag of Sierra-Leone, had left Libya and was bound to Syria.

10) Lebanese terrorist Mohammad Hussein Fares confessed to participating in smuggling weapons, militants and journalists into Syria and committing terrorists acts against Syrians.

11) Fares said that they smuggled assault rifles, RPG rounds, sniper rifles, LAW missiles, machineguns and cases of ammo, delivering them to Amoun, with al-Jarban coming later to distribute them among terrorists.

12) US, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are arming AL-QAEDA Terrorists to commit Terrorism in Syria.

13) Over 30,000 various weapons have been channelled to Syria since unrest flared up there in April last year, Amin Khteit says. The overall amount of explosives makes up 300 tons. The deliveries were made by Qatar and Saudi Arabia. They depend on the United States, which is making every effort to overpower Syria.

14) The authorities seized weapons smuggled from Turkey in Tal Abyad area on the Syrian-Turkish borders in Raqqa countryside.

15) A Turkish parliamentarian has stressed that Turkish ambulances are transporting weapons to terrorist groups in Syria, expressing their opposition to Ankara's policies on the Syrian case.

Syria before UN: 'New Colonial Policies Under Pretext of Humanitarian Intervention'

Al-Moallem.jpg

Al-Moallem: Well-Known Countries Pursue New Colonial Policies Under Pretext of Humanitarian Intervention

Oct 01, 2012

NEW YORK, (SANA) - Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem
on Monday delivered a speech before the United Nations General
Assembly.

Following the full text of al-Moallem's speech

Mr. Vuk Jeremic President of the 67th session of the General Assembly,
Excellences, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to congratulate you and your friendly country, the
Republic of Serbia, on your election as President of the General
Assembly at its current session, and to wish you success in conducting
our work in a way that brings back to the President of the General
Assembly its important and neutral role in fulfilling his duties away
from any political, national or international agendas that violate the
rules of international law and contradict efforts to achieve security
and stability in the world. We also wish success to the Secretary
General of the United Nations in carrying out his duties in enhancing
the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United
Nations.

Mr. President, Ladies and Gentlemen, Our contemporary world faces many
events that are affecting its states, and continue to cast their
shadow on the international scene. Many countries are facing
political, economic and financial crises which exceed the capacity of
States to cope with their consequences individually. While the peoples
of the world wait to see effective and coordinated international
efforts to overcome those crises, the reality indicates, instead, the
escalation of hegemony and domination on the fortunes of nations and
peoples in a way that contradicts the principles and purposes
enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and the norms of
international law. Instead of seeking to contribute to the settlement
of regional and international disputes by peaceful means, some
well-known countries continue to pursue new colonial policies based on
political hypocrisy in dealing with those crises, under the pretext of
humanitarian intervention these countries interfere in domestic
affairs of states, and impose unilateral economic sanctions that lack
moral and legal basis, and under the pretext of concepts such as
"Responsibility to Protect", drums of war are beaten, and sedition and
unrest are spreading and damaging the structure of national societies.
Perhaps, worse of all, is to see permanent members of the Security
Council, who launched wars under the pretext of combating terrorism,
now support terrorism in my country without any regard to the United
Nations resolutions that established the regulations and mechanisms
for concerted international efforts to fight this scourge away from
political polarization and double standards.

Mr. President,

For more than one year now, my country has been facing organized
terrorism, that affected our citizens, our human and scientific
resources, national establishments, and also much of Syria's historic
and archeological landmarks through terrorist bombings, assassinations
and massacres, looting and sabotage activities that horrified citizens
in many parts of Syria. The latest example of this terrorist bombing
took place recently in Damascus on 26 / 9 / 2012. A terrorist group
with the name of "Jabhat al-Nosrah", one of the al-Qaeda arms, took
the responsibility of this attack. It is no surprise that the Security
Council failed to condemn this and other terrorist bombings, because
some of its members are supporting such acts. This terrorism which is
externally supported is accompanied by unprecedented media provocation
based on igniting religious extremism sponsored by well-known states
in the region to facilitate the flow of arms, money and fighters
through the borders of some neighboring countries. Those states either
turn a blind eye to the activities of terrorist groups crossing their
borders, or provide active material and logistical support from their
territory for armed terrorist groups. These facts make me question
whether this international consensus by our states on combating
terrorism was serious, or it was just merely ink on paper? In what
context can we classify the explicit request of the United States from
the armed terrorist groups not to surrender their arms as a response
to amnesty decrees and decisions issued by the Syrian leadership? We
also wonder to what extent the statements of Qatar, Saudi Arabia,
Turkey, the United States, and France that clearly induce and support
terrorism in Syria with money, weapons and foreign fighters, are in
line with the international responsibilities of these countries in
combating terrorism. One of the ironies that we face is represented by
encouraging the extremists in countries within and outside our region
to go to the borders of Syria, and enter country, to carry out
terrorist acts under the name of "jihad" in collaboration with
terrorists from the inside, and this is a fact confirmed by reports of
both international and Arab observers. Until today, and as a result of
this terrorism, Syria has lost thousands of martyrs from the military
and civilians as a price of its quest to defend the integrity of the
Syrian state and its citizens in the face of this global terrorist
campaign.

Mr. President, The Syrian government has the initiative to call for
dialogue at the beginning of the events that took place, without that
call finding any positive response from most opposition parties. Also,
My Government responded positively throughout the crisis for each
sincere initiative that aims to help finding a peaceful solution based
on national dialogue among Syrians, and rejects external manipulation,
and emphasizes preserving the blood of the Syrians and the unity of
Syria and its future. Based on this principled position, and despite
the conviction of the Syrian leadership that there are no sincere
intentions from some regional and international parties that push for
the escalation of the Syrian crisis and fueling its fie and prolonging
it through thwarting all attempts for dialogue, and insisting on
creating a state of instability to ensure the need for foreign
interference, despite all that, Syria cooperated with the Arab
Observers Mission, and the subsequent international initiatives linked
to the work of the UN Special Envoy Kofi Annan. Syria, out of
principle, received the United Nations Supervision Mission in Syria
(UNSMIS), and provided it with all the facilities that enabled it to
deploy in an unprecedented record time. The Syrian leadership, also,
announced its full commitment to the implementation of the Six Point
Plan presented by Mr. Annan, and started the practical implementation
of its provisions. It, also, welcomed the Geneva Communiqué that
stressed the need for the implementation of these provisions, but the
behavior of the armed groups that sought to exploit the Syrian
government's commitment to the plan and the Geneva Communiqué to
achieve gains on the ground and expand the area of their presence, in
addition to the statements issued by some Western and Arab countries,
all this clarified who are the actors and states working to thwart all
these Initiatives.

Syria has welcomed the appointment of Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi as the
Special Representative of the Secretary-General to succeed Mr. Annan,
and stressed its willingness to fully cooperate with him on the
principles agreed upon by the international community, particularly
the Six-Point Plan. I would like to tell you that the success of any
international effort requires, in addition to the commitment of the
Syrian government, committing these states supporting armed groups in
my country, particularly Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Libya and
others, to stop arming, funding, training and harboring armed
terrorist groups, and instead to encourage dialogue and renounce
violence.

Mr. President, For more than one year now, Syria has been saying that
what my country is witnessing is a two-sided problem: the first side
is linked to the need for political, economic and social reforms
demanded by the public; the second is the exploitation of those needs
and demands for objectives that are completely different from the
demands of the Syrian people and their interests, and make these
peaceful demands as a ladder for armed groups working to sow sedition
and undermine security in my country. I referred to this in my speech
from this podium last year. I come back today to tell you that the
state in Syria made serious and important reform steps that culminated
in a new constitution that embraces political pluralism, and was
adopted by referendum; consequently parliamentary elections, which
were open to multiple political parties, took place and, Now I tell
you that Syria is continuing to work with the patriotic components in
the opposition to build a new and pluralistic Syria that responds to
the aspirations of its people, and is determined at the same time to
carry her duties in protecting her people from jihadist and takfiri
terrorism, through which armed terrorist groups are working to spread
chaos and create sedition among Syrians and threaten their peaceful
coexistence.

Mr. President,

We heard calls from this podium, and on other platforms, some calls
from those who are ignorant of the facts or maybe ignoring them, or
also from those who are shareholders in exacerbating them, that
invites the President of the Syrian Arab Republic to step down. This
is a blatant interference in the domestic affairs of Syria, and the
unity of its people and its sovereignty.

The Syrian people is the only part authorized to choose its own future
and the shape of its own state that accommodates all groups and
spectrum of the Syrian people, including those who were deceived and
chose the wrong way. The Syrian people is the one to choose its
leadership through the ballot box which represents the most important
way of democracy and expression. If some countries that interfere in
the internal affairs of Syria are proud of their democracy and freedom
of decision of their people, the, it is better for those people to
choose its leadership through elections whose form is defined by the
new constitution and relevant laws, and then the ballot box will have
the final say.

I say to those countries enough illusions, and I invite the national
opposition to work together to stop the shedding of Syrian blood, and
to sit at the dialogue table and participate in the making of the
present and the future of Syria. We don’t bet on any party or factor
apart from the Syrian people which is determined, in all its
components, to reject all forms of foreign interference in its
domestic affairs, and to defeat the advocates of the project of
sectarianism, extremism and terrorism, because the bond is very strong
in my country between state policies and the aspirations of the
people.

Mr. President, Despite all that I said about what my country is
experiencing, we still believe in political solution as an essential
way to exit out of the crisis, and I call from this platform for:

First: all parties and political groups, inside and outside Syria, to
a constructive dialogue under the umbrella of the homeland, and the
doors of Syria, as is her heart, are open to anyone who wants
construction and dialogue. To achieve this, I call all countries
represented in the General Assembly to exert pressure to end violence
in my country through ending of arming, financing, harboring and
training of terrorist groups.

Second: the results of this national dialogue, after agreement by all
parties, will be the map and the future way of the country in
establishing a more pluralistic and democratic Syria.

Mr. President, These events in Syria have led to growing humanitarian
needs in several key sectors in areas affected by the terrorism of
Takfiri groups, which led to the worsening of the living conditions of
the Syrian citizens there. While my government is working hard to meet
the basic needs of citizens who have been forced by the violence of
the armed groups to flee their homes, some have sought to fabricate a
refugee crisis through inciting armed groups to intimidate Syrian
civilians in border areas and forcing them to flee to neighboring
countries. There, they are either accommodated in military training
camps, or in what resembles places of detention, amid arid of rugged
regions, and exploited their plight to get aid spent mostly on goals
that have no relevance to humanitarian objectives. I appeal from this
podium to those Syrian citizens to return to their towns and villages
where the state will guarantee their safe return and their precious
lives away from inhuman conditions they suffer in these camps.

At this point let me ask a legitimate question about the credibility
of those who claim to care for providing humanitarian assistance as a
response to the needs of the Syrians, and the consistency of those
claims with the policy of tightening economic sanctions that badly
affect the living conditions of the Syrian citizens. How can imposing
sanctions on the banking, health and transport sectors be consistent
with caring for the best interest of the Syrians? I also wonder if the
legitimate public demands of our citizens, to which the Syrian
leadership responded transparently and sincerely, can justify their
use as an excuse to continue providing all forms of military,
financial and media support to those killing innocent people in Syria,
including journalists, doctors, university professors and even
religious dignitaries? Or is this the practical interpretation of the
concept of "creative chaos" which only serve the expansionist
interests of Israel?

Mr. President, What is happening in my country must not make us lose
our basic compass which is Palestine and the Golan Heights, therefore
the Syrian Arab Republic confirms its adherence to her natural right
to restore the full occupied Syrian Golan up to the line of June 6th,
1967, and its refusal of all the measures taken by Israel, the
occupying power, to change the natural, geographical and demographic
aspects in clear violation of the relevant resolutions of the Security
Council, particularly its resolution No 497 of 1981. Syrian renews its
support for the legitimacy of recognition by international community
of a free and independent Palestinian State on the Palestinian
territories occupied in 1967.

The failure of efforts to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the
Middle East on the basis of international terms of reference adopted
by the international community as a basis for peace between
Palestinians and Israelis is due, as everyone knows, to the unilateral
positions and actions of Israel, particularly Israel's insistence on
continuing its settlement policy and evasion of requirements of peace.

Mr. President, My country renews the call for the international
community to work to free the Middle East of all weapons of mass
destruction, and we remind in this context of the initiative presented
by Syria during its membership of the Security Council by the end of
2003, and the call upon the Council to adopt it. Syria stresses that
evacuating the region of all weapons of mass destruction is
unachievable without forcing Israel, the only nuclear power in the
region, to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and to put its
nuclear facilities under the inspection of the International Atomic
Energy Agency (IAEA). At the same time we emphasize on what is
stipulated in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty of the light of all
States to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Mr. President, The insistence of the United States and countries of
the European Union and others to adopt unilateral economic measures
contradicts the regulations of international law and the principles of
free trade, and raises questions about the legality and morality of
such practices. Based on this, we call for the lifting of the embargo
imposed on Cuba by the United States for decades. We also renew our
call for the lifting and stopping of all unilateral coercive measures
imposed on the peoples of other countries, such as Venezuela, Belarus,
Iran, Syria and the DPRK.

Mr. President, Our aspiration to achieve a positive reform of the
international organization stems from our desire to find a world based
on justice, security and prosperity for all the peoples of the world,
away from the colonial tendencies of some countries that seek to
exploit the United Nations to achieve their own interests at the
expense of other countries. We are all hope that the United Nations
can take the people of the world to a better future that fulfills
their aspirations in life, coexistence, development and food
sufficiency away from all forms of tension, confrontation and wars,
pursuant to what is established by the United Nations Charter
principles and purposes seeking to preserve the sovereignty of States
and equality among them in rights and duties.

Thank you, Mr. President.

Hypocrisy not democracy in America

Obama.Ban.Ki.Moon.Saoudi.Arabia.jpg

Sep 20, 2012

Torture is official policy. So is Murder, Inc. Death squads operate in over 120 countries. Special forces and CIA operatives are licensed to kill. US citizens may be targeted at home or abroad. No one anywhere is safe."

US elections are farcical. Obama and Romney represent two sides of the same coin. Neither offers choice. Democracy never existed and doesn't now. Rhetoric substitutes for reality.

Republicans and Democrats offer the worst of all possible worlds. Ordinary people are entirely shut out. Growing numbers reject both parties for good reason. Money power owns them.

"Are you better off" than four years ago, asked The New York Times? "There is really no reason for any hesitancy. The country is unquestionably better off than it was in 2008."

Fact check: True to form, The Times offered a litany of lies. Bankers, other corporate favorites, and war profiteers fared handsomely. They still do.

America's 99% got stiff-armed. Most US households were thrown under the bus.Virtually no jobs were created. Full-time/good pay and benefit ones are disappearing. Real unemployment approaches 23%. In the Great
Depression, it reached 25%. Serious efforts were made then to reduce it. Virtually nothing is done now.

US Census figures confirm half or more of US households living in poverty or bordering on it. Record numbers need food stamps to survive. Congress plans cuts when they're more than ever needed.

Feeding America says over 50 million Americans face hunger. One in six people are affected, including over one in five children.
Political Washington ignores food insecurity. Serving corporate interests and imperial warmongers alone matter.

Duplicitous political convention rhetoric was enough to make a brash brigand blush. Banality took center stage. Demagogic deception hid reactionary extremism.

Convention delegates and ordinary people inhabit worlds apart.
Pre-scripted yammering was predictable. Republicans showed contempt for human needs. Phony populism hid a similar Democrat agenda.

Privilege alone matters. Ordinary folks increasingly are on their own sink or swim. Obama's first term reflected it. Betrayal and failure defined it. Another four years assures more of the same and then some.

The man promising hope and change broke every major pledge made. Four demagogic years did Lincoln one better. He fooled most people enough to matter. He's beholden to big money. He never cared about ordinary
people and doesn't now.

"Yes we can" conceals his dark side. No pun intended. He's a consummate con man. It's easy to know when he's lying, just watch his lips move.

Throughout his political career, he's been pro-corporate, pro-war, pro-Israel, anti-populist, anti-civil and human rights, and anti all values real democrats support.

He put Wall Street crooks in charge of looting the nation's wealth. He furthered the greatest wealth transfer in history. Rules, regulations, legal restraints with teeth, and taxes were slashed to help them.
Plans are on track to make America resemble Guatemala.

Full-time/high pay/good benefit jobs are disappearing. So are social services. They're on the chopping block for elimination. The nation's middle class is targeted for destruction. A huge underclass is replacing it. America's more than ever militarized to control it.

Police state laws threaten freedom. Big Brother spying is policy.
Privacy is a figure of speech. First Amendment rights and dissent are endangered. Tyranny, torture, corporate empowerment, and permanent wars define Obama's agenda.

He exceeded the worst of George Bush's harshness, lawlessness, and belligerency. Imagine what he plans if reelected. He waged war on Islam, Latino immigrants, animal and environmental rights activists, whistleblowers, people of color, the poor, anyone challenging state power, and civil rights lawyers who defend them too vigorously.

In Obama's America, only the privileged matter. Growing numbers of others are on their own hungry, homeless, and jobless.

He looted the nation's wealth, wrecked the economy, ravaged one nation after another, and continues waging war on humanity.

He executed two Latin American coups. Honduras' democratically elected president was ousted. So was Paraguay's. He militarized Haiti, opened the country for business, occupied it for plunder, rigged its election, installed a pro-Western stooge, and increased the growing burden of impoverished Haitians who deserve better.

He supports the world's worst despots. He sucks up shamelessly to Israel. He spurns long denied Palestinian rights. He plans war on Syria and Iran. Neither nation threatens anyone. America and Israel menace humanity.

He presides over a bogus democracy under a repressive police state apparatus. Habeas rights, due process, judicial fairness, and other civil liberty protections are quaint artifacts increasingly discarded.

Torture is official policy. So is Murder, Inc. Death squads operate in over 120 countries. Special forces and CIA operatives are licensed to kill. US citizens may be targeted at home or abroad. No one anywhere is safe.

Summary judgment means no arrests. No Miranda rights. No due process.
No trial. Just a bullet, bomb or slit throat. It's official Obama policy. Diktat authority affords justice to no one ordered killed.

It also lets Obama order US citizens arrested and indefinitely held without charge or trial. No proof is needed, just suspicions that those detained pose threats. Constitutional protections no longer apply.

US military personnel may arrest and indefinitely detain anyone globally. No one anywhere is safe. Tyranny is policy. Obama seized virtual dictatorial powers. Anyone designated a potential enemy of the state, true or false, is targeted.

Political prisoners fill America's gulag. It’s the world’s largest by far and one of the worst. Muslims and people of color are most at risk. America's super-rich and corporate crooks are free to do what they please. Bad as things are now, expect worse.

War rages against labor. Budget-strapped states get little help. Welfare is being cut. So are Medicare for seniors, Medicaid for the needy, and other New Deal/Great Society programs.

Public education is being commoditized. Plans call for making it another business profit center and ending government's responsibility.
Health care is being rationed. Only those who can afford it will get help when they need it.

Food and drug safety don't matter. Nor do clean air or water. Small farms and businesses are being destroyed. Large ones are bigger and more dominant than ever.

Wall Street ones are up to one-fourth larger today than four years ago. They're double their size a decade ago relative to the economy. Ordinary Americans are much poorer and more deprived.

Financial reform was fraudulent. Institutionalized grand theft is policy. Business as usual lets Wall Street run the country. Consumer protections don't exist.

The worst of bad practices continue. Rules either don't exist or are made to be broken. Bankers get what they want. Ordinary people get scammed.

Obama promised "change you can believe in." He delivered betrayal instead. He's anti-progressive, hard-right, reactionary, belligerent, pro-corporate, and anti-populist. He's heartless, merciless, morally corrupt, and soulless.

Austerity is policy when help is needed. Draconian cuts were enacted.
Many more are planned. Eliminating trillions of dollars in social service spending is policy. Democrats are in lock step with Republicans.

Corporate handouts, tax cuts for the rich, and Pentagon spending remain virtually untouched. Bad as things are now, imagine America in four years under either party.

Obama plans more of the same and then some. Romney is a religious extremist/corporate crook/socially destructive/imperial rogue.

He and Ryan plan exceeding the worst of Obama. Both are unapologetic.
They're indifferent to human need and welfare. They represent everything wrong with a broken system. It's too corrupted, dysfunctional, and rotten to fix.

They're frontmen for financial zed America, super-rich privilege, and imperial lawlessness. They guarantee worse wide awake nightmares than Obama.

America's choice in November is none. Bad as things are now expect worse. Bipartisan complicity assures it.

Syria: Mosque Preachers Condemn Terrorist Bombings

Mosque Preachers Condemn Terrorist Bombings.jpg

Mosque Preachers Condemn Terrorist Bombings against General Staff Building and Martyrs' Sons Schools in Damascus

Sep 29, 2012 - DAMASCUS, (SANA)- Scholars and imams and preachers of mosques condemned in their sermons at Friday Prayers the terrorist bombings which recently targeted the General Staff building and the Martyrs' Sons Schools in Damascus and claimed the lives of a number of civilians and military members and injuring others.

The preachers pointed out that the terrorist bombings that target public and private properties , houses of worship and infrastructure are aimed at undermining Syria's position and forcing it to change its national and pan-Arab stances in service of the international Zionism's projects to weaken the resistance in the region.

They stressed that what the takfiris and terrorists are doing is a flagrant aggression on religion and a crime against humanity, affirming that victory is coming thanks to the awareness of the Syrian people and the solidness of its unity.

The imams underscored that the Syrians are now more determined to defeat the schemes of the US and its allies that are targeted against the Syrian people and their steadfastness in support of resistance.

With rice and national songs, the marchers were heartedly welcomed by the residents of Baba Amro neighborhood, who along with their fellow citizens planted an olive tree at the neighborhood's roundabout as a symbol of amity for each other.

Homs Governor, Ahmad Munir Mohammad, highlighted in a statement to SANA the importance of such initiatives in strengthening love and unity among the city's sons, stressing that "no matter how hard the enemies try, the Syrian people will remain strong and steadfast in the face of the conspiracies."

Salafist movement in Jordan sends now terrorists to Syria

Libyans took matters into their own hands in Benghazi.jpgThe Salafist movement in Jordan sends now terrorists to Syria which use western weapons for its terrorist bomb attacks...

Photo: Thousands of people march in Benghazi during a protest against militias. The Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate that killed four Americans was the spark that ignited growing frustration with the armed groups that have proliferated since the ouster of Moammar Gadhafi. Continuing to chant anti-Ansar slogans, the crowd, swelling into the thousands, moved on to try to storm a separate compound where the powerful pro-government Rafallah al-Sahati militia was entrusted with guarding a big weapons store, and opened fire on the assailants. Looters carried weapons out of the compound as men chanted: "Say to Ansar al-Shariah: 'Benghazi will be your inferno!'"

Spain Protesters Storm Parliament As They Rage Against Austerity, Many Beaten By Police

Sept. 25th, 2012

MADRID — Spain's government was hit hard by the country's financial crisis on multiple fronts Tuesday as protestors enraged with austerity cutbacks and tax hikes clashed with police near Parliament, a separatist-minded region set elections seen as an independence referendum and the nation's high borrowing costs rose again.

More than 1,000 riot police blocked off access to the Parliament building in the heart of Madrid, forcing most protesters to crowd nearby avenues and shutting down traffic at the height of the evening rush hour.

Police used batons to push back some protesters at the front of the march attended by an estimated 6,000 people as tempers flared, and some demonstrators broke down barricades and threw rocks and bottles toward authorities.

Television images showed officers beating protesters in response, and an Associated Press television producer saw five people dragged away by police and two protesters bloodied. Spanish state TV said at least 28 were injured, including two officers, and that 22 people were detained. Independent Spanish media reported higher numbers that could not immediately be confirmed.

The demonstration, organized with an "Occupy Congress" slogan, drew protesters from all walks of life weary of nine straight months of painful economic austerity measures imposed by Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and his solid majority of lawmakers. Smaller demonstrations Tuesday attracted hundreds of protesters in Barcelona and Seville.

Angry Madrid marchers who got as close as they could to Parliament, 250 meters (yards) away, yelled "Get out!, Get out! They don't represent us! Fire them!"

Who's responsible for terrorist attacks and the suffering of the Syrian people ?

Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Britain would step up its support for the armed groups in Syria, providing them with an additional £5 million (US$7.8 million). The money is used for bomb attacks in Syria.

Syria: increasing foreign extremists armed by Washington and UK.

increasing.foreign.extremists.jpgAssociated Press Reveals Increasing Numbers of Foreign Militants and Extremists within Armed Terrorist Groups in Syria

Sep 20, 2012 - WASHINGTON, SANA - The Associated Press agency unveiled that foreign militants loyal to Islamic extremist movements are fighting alongside the armed terrorist gangs in Syria.

In a report published on Thursday, the AP said the influence of those militants is increasing more and more despite the claim of these gangs to deny the existence of foreign terrorists on the Syrian terrorists.

The agency mentioned one of the incidents that stresses the existence of foreign extremists fighting the Syrian Forces. " 12 bearded gunmen who surrounded the car full of foreign journalists in a northern Syrian village were clearly not Syrians. A heavyset man in a brown gown stepped forward, announced he was Iraqi and fingered through the American passport he had confiscate, " the agency said, pointing out that he was accompanied by a number of men, many of whom appeared to have North African accents.

"We know all American journalists are spies. Now tell us what you are doing here and who you are spying for," the Iraqi man said in English.

"I really want to cut your head off right now," he added, but with the intervention of nearby villagers, the confrontation eventually was defused. But it underscored the unpredictable element that foreign fighters bring to the Syrian conflict.

The report said talk about the role of foreign jihadists in the Syrian civil war began in earnest, however, with the rise in suicide bombings. U.S. National Director of Intelligence James Clapper said in February that those attacks "bore the earmarks" of the jihadists in neighboring Iraq.

According to the confession of one of the armed terrorist groups' leader, the agency said there were maybe 500 jihadis involved in the battle for Aleppo, while a report from the Quilliam Foundation, a London-based Research and Study foundation, estimated a total of 1,200 to 1,500 foreign fighters in all of Syria.

While this is a small amount compared with the thousands of rebels estimated to be battling in Syria, Peter Harling of the International Crisis Group warned that the religious extremists will have an influence gunmen.

" I think numbers are irrelevant," Harling said, adding that the extremists are a "very important phenomenon in many ways. Their presence is very divisive, whether there are many or not."

The report went on to mention that the media center investigated and questioned any journalists they discovered who had written about foreign fighters being involved in the rebellion.

Despite their smaller numbers, the jihadis, many of whom are from foreign countries, bring experience in fighting guerrilla wars as well as their own supply lines for much needed weapons and ammunition, making them attractive to gunmen to join.

The jihadis also have a reputation for heading straight to the front lines. Few were in evidence in the Syrian countryside.

A French physician with Doctors Without Borders working near the front lines in Aleppo said in an interview last week that based on style of dress and what their companions said, half of the gunmen he treated were jihadis, both foreign and Syrian.

Dr. Jacques Pierre added Islamist militants seeking to turn Syria into a religious are growing in the ranks of the armed opposition and believe that they are fighting a holy war.

Arab Politicians and Intellectuals Voice Support to Syria

200 Arab Politicians and Intellectuals Voice Support to Syria

September 16th, 2012 - AMMAN, (SANA) - Around 200 politicians and intellectuals from different Arab countries stressed in a joint statement their support to the Syrian people and leadership in the face of the aggression waged by powers antagonistic to the Arab nation.

The politicians and intellectuals who signed the statement, among them Metropolitan Atallah Hanna, Archbishop of Sevastia for the Greek Orthodox and Bassam al-Shak'a, a founder of the Palestinian national movement, said that confronting the aggression is a priority at this stage, indicating that no government would relinquish the state's legitimacy for foreign-backed terrorist groups or tolerate tearing apart the social fabric.

They affirmed that vanquishing the powers of aggression is a prerequisite for Syria's emerging from the crisis.

The politicians said the reality of events became clear as evidenced by the developments and the sides arming the criminal gangs who are waging a proxy war for the US, NATO, Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Israel or those providing them with backing and funds.

They condemned calls for backing the terrorist groups, foreign interference in Syria and the economic sanctions, affirming that Syria aspires for peace , reminding that a democratic rule can only be attained by an independent and free people.

Pope Benedict XVI Hopes Peace Will Prevail in the Region, Particularly in Syria

September 16th, 2012 - BEIRUT, (SANA )- Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday expressed hope for peace to prevail in the Middle East region, particularly in Syria.

In a speech following a Mass he headed in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, Pope Benedict asked God to help the peoples of the region's countries and bestow peace upon them, especially in Syria, in light of the many afflictions encompassing the region.

The Pope stressed the necessity of respecting the freedom of practicing one's religion for the sake of achieving peace and for everybody to live in harmony.

Hundreds of Syrians Protest against the Offending "Innocence of Muslims" Film

Sep 14, 2012 - DAMASCUS, (SANA)- Hundreds of citizens gathered in front of the U.S. Embassy in Damascus following Friday Prayers in protest against the U.S.-produced film "Innocence of Muslims" which denigrates Islam and Prophet Mohammad.

The participants in the protest denounced the film as being aimed at stirring religious conflicts and igniting the war waged against Islam, holding the U.S. administration responsibe for allowing the production and release of this film.

The protests chanted slogans calling for taking the film's producers to international courts on charge of disdaining religions and encroaching on Islam and Prophet Mohammad.

Fayez al-Asta, one of the participants, noted that "Innocence of Muslims", which was directed and produced in the US by an Israeli amateur director, constituted an offense to the whole humanity, stressing that the goal behind this film is to ignite antipathy among religions, "which will not happen."

For his part, Mu'taz Anbar, another participant, called on all international organizations to condemn the film and work on holding its producers to account.

The participants criticized the attempts at putting the film within the framework of freedom of expression and opinion to provide cover for this offense which is denounced by all the holy religions.

A similar protest was held outside the U.S. Embassy on Thursday evening and included the participation of hundreds of citizens.

A number of Arab and Islamic countries also witnessed gatherings in front of the U.S. and Western Embassies in protest of the offending film.

Russia Condemns Terrorist Acts in Aleppo, Calls for Immediate Halt of Violence

11.9.2012 - MOSCOW, (SANA) - The Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned the terrorist acts which took place in the city of Aleppo two days ago, calling on the external powers to pressure the armed opposition to halt launching terrorist attacks.

"We firmly condemn the terrorist acts which claim the lives of innocent people," said the Ministry in a statement published on its website on Tuesday.

It stressed the necessity of immediately halting any act of violence by all the parties in Syria, reiterating persistent calls on all of the external powers capable of influencing the armed opposition to exert efforts to persuade this opposition to abandon waging terrorist attacks that claim lives and cause suffering to the civilians.

The statement expressed the Russian Foreign Ministry's deep condolences to the victims' families and wishes of speedy recovery for the injured, indicating the absence of Russian nationals among the victims of Aleppo terrorist bombings.

Thirty civilians, including women and children, and two law-enforcement members were martyred and 64 others were wounded in a terrorist bombing which occurred in front of al-Hayat hospital in al-Malaab al-Baladi neighborhood in the city of Aleppo on Sunday.

UN rights chief cites 'problems' in Syria...

Obama.Ban+Ki+Moon+UN+State+Luncheon.jpg

'The United Nations and its partners are doing all we can inside and outside of Syria. But we have to ask if we have done enough, and if we have done the right thing'. (Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in remarks to the General Assembly on Syria, New York, 4 Sept '12)

--

It is a public secret that Ban Ki-moon, who has been posted twice to the Republic of Korea embassy in Washington, D.C. and served as Director-General for American Affairs in 1990–1992, is a very good personal friend of president Obama.

It is therefore that he remains silent about  the secret order signed by America's president Obama authorizing U.S. support for the terrorists and armed groups in Syria seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.

It is therefore that he remains silent about the increase of Britain's support for the armed groups in Syria, providing them with an additional £5 million (US$7.8 million)'.

The UN is an instrument of the US and its allies (NATO, Saudi Arabia, Israel,) and as the Director of the Russian Center for Analyzing World Arms Trade, Igor Korotchenko, said 'they are responsible for the victims and suffering in Syria'.  By arming terrorists they rejects a solution.

The statements of Ban Ki Moon are a good example of the western hypocrisy.

'Democracy': McCarthyism

McCarthyism.Is_this_tomorrow.jpg

McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for evidence. The term has its origins in the period in the United States known as the Second Red Scare, lasting roughly from 1950 to 1954 and characterized by heightened fears of communist influence on American institutions and espionage by Soviet agents. Originally coined to criticize the anti-communist pursuits of Republican U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin, "McCarthyism" soon took on a broader meaning, describing the excesses of similar efforts. The term is also now used more generally to describe reckless, unsubstantiated accusations, as well as demagogic attacks on the character or patriotism of political adversaries.

During the McCarthy era, thousands of Americans were accused of being Communists or communist sympathizers and became the subject of aggressive investigations and questioning before government or private-industry panels, committees and agencies. The primary targets of such suspicions were government employees, those in the entertainment industry, educators and union activists. Suspicions were often given credence despite inconclusive or questionable evidence, and the level of threat posed by a person's real or supposed leftist associations or beliefs was often greatly exaggerated. Many people suffered loss of employment and/or destruction of their careers; some even suffered imprisonment. Most of these punishments came about through trial verdicts later overturned, laws that would be declared unconstitutional, dismissals for reasons later declared illegal or actionable, or extra-legal procedures that would come into general disrepute.
